Growing Media Europe publishes Sustainability Agenda

Growing Media Europe (GME) presents today its first Sustainability Agenda (click here for download).

Drafted by an expert team of GME members, the Sustainability Agenda illustrates how growing media enable a shift towards a more sustainable horticulture, gives insights in the recently launched GME Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) project and explains the main sustainability objectives of GME as an association. The main statements of the Sustainability Agenda are:

  • All 3 pillars of sustainability are crucial (environment, economy, society)

  • Growing media must be “fit for purpose” in order to be sustainable

  • Both raw materials and production processes should be “responsible”

  • The sustainability debate should be based on scientifically validated data

Presenting GME´s sustainability vision at the IPS convention in Bremen on 14 May 2019, GME chairman Stefaan Vandaele stated that “Proactively dealing with ALL aspects of sustainability and taking on responsibility is a prerequisite for any industry that wants to have a future. Our Sustainability Agenda is a small but important step of navigating the sector in the right direction and creating the opportunity to make a shift towards a more sustainable horticulture.”
