GME Board Member and Treasurer Thanja van Dongen was appointed interim Chair of the Board during a Board meeting on 22 February 2022. Following the resignation of previous Chair Juha Mäkinen on 21 February, the swift decision will ensure full continuity of all GME activities in 2022. Thanja van Dongen is the Chair of the Board for Zelta Zeme in Latvia, a Baltic peat moss and growing media manufacturer founded in 1933. Born into a Dutch peat producers family and active in the industry since 15 years, Thanja has a high level of experience and an outstanding knowledge of the sector. Elected in 2017, Thanja is the longest standing GME Board Member and also chairs the internal GME Task Force on Peat.
On behalf of all GME Members, the Board expresses its sincere gratitude to Juha Mäkinen for several years of strong commitment, successful cooperation, and excellent leadership both as Board Member and Chair of Growing Media Europe. The GME General Assembly will hold Board elections in the upcoming weeksto elect two additional Board Members and re-establish a Board of five members in total.
